Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 14, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how the Lumo app, on phones, tablets and TVs, and the lumoplayer.app website ("Lumo", "we", "us") handle your information.
1. Summary
Lumo is a media player for your own video and music collection. Your media library is processed on your device. Using the app does not require an account, Lumo does not show ads, and we do not sell your personal information.
2. Information processed on your device
To build your library, Lumo reads the media files on your device after you grant storage or media access. Your files, playlists, favorites, play history and settings, and watch progress are stored locally on your device and are not uploaded to us.
3. Information sent to third-party services
Some features need to look up information online. When they do, the app sends only what is needed for that lookup:
Movie and TV information: titles and years derived from your file and folder names are sent to movie and TV metadata services, such as The Movie Database (TMDB), to find posters, descriptions and episode details.
Song identification: track details such as title, artist, album and duration are sent to music metadata services to find correct song information and artwork. When you play a song that has not been identified, the app may send a short audio fingerprint of that song to a music recognition service. The fingerprint is a digital summary of the audio, not a recording.
Lyrics: song title, artist and duration are sent to lyrics providers to find matching lyrics.
These requests do not include your name, email or account information.
4. Connected media sources
If you connect a media source such as an SMB share, a WebDAV server or an Emby server, the server address and login details you enter are stored on your device. The app uses them only to connect directly to your server. They are never sent to us.
Your own server may record activity as part of its normal operation, for example an Emby server recording your playback progress. That data is handled by your server and its software, not by us.
5. Google account and sync (optional)
You can sign in with your Google account to sync your data across devices. When you sign in, we receive your name, email address and profile picture from Google to identify your account in the app.
Synced data (such as playlists, favorites and settings) and any music you choose to upload are stored in your own Google Drive. Lumo accesses only the files it creates there. We do not keep a copy of this data on our own servers.
The app's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
6. Casting
When you cast to a device such as a Chromecast, the app sends the media you choose to that device over your local network. Casting is handled by Google Cast and is subject to Google's privacy policy.
7. Crash reports and usage statistics
To fix bugs and improve the app, we collect crash reports and aggregated usage statistics through Google Firebase. This data includes device model, operating system version, app version and app events. It does not include the contents or names of your media files.
8. Advertising
Lumo does not display third-party advertising and does not use your advertising ID. If this changes, we will update this policy before the change takes effect.
9. Purchases
If you buy a paid feature, the payment is processed by Google Play. We receive confirmation of your purchase, but we never receive your payment card details.
10. How we share information
We do not sell or rent your personal information. Information is shared only with the service providers described above, as needed to provide the features you use, or when required by law.
11. Data retention and deletion
Data stored on your device is removed when you clear the app data or uninstall the app.
To delete synced data, sign out of the app and remove the app's data from your Google Drive (Google Drive settings, Manage apps). You can also revoke the app's access at myaccount.google.com/permissions. To ask us to delete any other information, email us at support@lumoplayer.app.
12. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal information, and to object to or restrict its processing. Contact us and we will respond within 30 days.
13. Children
Lumo is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
14. Security
We use reasonable technical measures to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
15. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new version on this page and update the date above. Significant changes will also be announced in the app.
